A sense of history

Thousands of years ago the huge blob of frozen lava that is Traprain Law was one of the first sites in Scotland to have a human settlement. Perched on a cliff just south of North Berwick, Tantallon Castle exudes atmosphere and is everything a Scottish castle should be. A few miles up the coast, Dirleton Castle with a magnificent drawbridge and fine gardens has the world's longest herbaceous border. A tranquil riverside setting belying its turbulent past, discover Hailes Castle , near East Linton, which dates from the 13th century and was once the home of the Earl of Bothwell, husband of Mary Queen of Scots. Step back in time as you cross East Linton's 16 th century bridge, which once carried mail coaches on the Great North Road . Visit Preston Mill, much loved by artists and still working.

The city of Edinburgh is steeped in history and alongside world-class attractions like the Castle and the Museum of Scotland , you'll find an amazing choice of things to see. Make the most of your visit with the new Edinburgh Pass which you can purchase online. This also gives you free access to over 25 attractions, free guidebook and free bus transport .
